One of
the major points of pride for the Catholic Theological
Union is its Bernardin Center for Theology and Ministry,
named in honor of the late Cardinal Joseph Bernardin.
|
Within the Bernardin Center, CTU identifies five major issues and
implies active support and participation of all five:
• Reconciliation and
Peacemaking
• Interreligious Dialogue (especially Jewish and Muslim)
• Consistent Ethic of Life (healthcare and pastoral care of the
gravely ill)
• Leadership Development for the Catholic Church
• Catholic Common Ground
While CTU has active programs with the first four issues, the fifth
issue – Catholic Common Ground – is name only. The spirit of the
Catholic Common Ground initiative is the working together of both
‘progressive’ and ‘conservative’ Catholics; to find common ground
and begin the building process of unity.
While I appreciate CTU’s awareness of the Catholic Common Ground
initiative (empty as it may be), I fail to see CTU’s commitment to
the spirit of this initiative. I only see a spirit of divisiveness
and disharmony and an attempt to deconstruct the Church in order to
promote the CTU’s progressive attitudes.
More info on the Catholic Common Ground initiative can be found at:

In addition, the Bernardin Center at CTU, along with
pharmaceutical manufacturer, Lily Foundation, sponsors a dissident program
called 'Catholics on Call'.
The Catholic on Call program supports
- Dissident feminism and promotion of woman's ordination
- Distorts the Churches teaching on homosexuality
- Offers an incomplete explanation of the Eucharist
