My actual
experience at CTU has been different from what I had
expected. But, before I go any further, I would like to
clarify two points: first, that while the academic
dimension was time-consuming and demanded
self-discipline, in general, the demands were not
overwhelming.
|
Second, I am a strong
advocate of academic freedom and I believe that the members of
academic communities must have the right to breach intellectual
barriers, to examine, discuss and debate in the search of truth.
The challenge came when I recognized that the content of what is
actually taught at CTU is inconsistent with the teachings of the
magisterium. I will use the terminology of ‘conservative’ thought to
represent the magisterial teaching of the Catholic Church and
‘progressive’ thought to represent the teachings of CTU.
I see many of the ‘progressive’ concepts taught at CTU as being
conceived by the union of emotion and ideology, clothed in weak
philosophy and theology; with an attempt to legitimatize the birth
with a rewriting of Church history and out-of-context
interpretations of Church doctrine; producing a hastily-constructed
birth certificate which resembles a kidnapper’s ransom note.
The worst part of this situation, is that the teachings of CTU are
simply accepted, with blind trust, by most of the CTU students.
And this lack of respect which CTU show’s for the individual is
demonstrated time and time, again. The primary concern at CTU is the
promotion of its ideological agenda; the people in the classroom and
the people in the pew are only tools to assist CTU in accomplishing
its goals.
